Leland and I have always been thankful for Tyler International Homeschool Cooperative (TIHC), the school Adalyn has been part of since she joined kindergarten. It was one of the aspects that helped us feel at ease when we made the decision to move to Uganda. To make the school even possible, we all rely on volunteer teachers, parents, and other missionaries to help, and we can’t take those positions for granted because they are not always filled. Every year, we are looking for teacher volunteers to come to Uganda to teach our kids. Every year, we hope that there are enough classes for the kids who need to be in school. Every year, we pray for the board members, school administrator, and other staff members who make the tough decisions and keep the school running smoothly. And every year, we are so THANKFUL for the school community and healthy learning environment for Adalyn.
It is hard to believe that Adalyn has been part of the school for 7 years. We moved to Uganda with a “just-turned-three-year-old” little girl, and now we have a middle school young woman. Crazy! As always, God provides the teachers needed, and they are an amazing blessing. We are regularly reminded of how God already has great things in store for each year.
One of the aspects we love the most about the school is the diversity of international students and teachers. Teachers and students have come from all over the United States, England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, Netherlands, Kenya, Korea, Australia, Uganda, and Tanzania. The students have learned about different cultures in ways that we could have never imagined for our little girl. We are thankful for the community that comes together in the name of Jesus Christ to serve in Uganda. Parents come together for prayer every month: to pray for all the needs of the school, staff, teachers, students, and families. We have fun activities like field day, spirit week, pancake day…all organized by parents and teachers. It’s a fun and hands-on learning environment. We are always reminded of how blessed we are for God’s provision each year. Not everyone has to worry about where their child is going to school next year, or if there will be a teacher for their class, or if they have to consider homeschool or online classes. We are never guaranteed anything in this life, so we are thankful for the teachers and families in this community.
With that being said, if you or someone you know would be interested in learning more about serving at our small international homeschool, please check out this flyer, or contact us for more details. We’d love to have you join us!
